Product Suitability
Products with even and smooth surfaces are suitable to run on the roller conveyors. Products with uneven surfaces and not suitable to run on the roller conveyors.

Roller Selection

Load on Each Roller & Pitch of the Roller.

The primary basic calculation is about Load on each roller

Roller Pitch is Distance Between two Rollers "Centre to Centre".

Please consider 3 to 4 Rollers below the product anytime for smooth conveying of product

Roller Diameter & Thickness

The product material needs to consider more.

If there is metal in contact with rollers, it may create friction and scracthes on the roller as well on the product.

So higher thickness is requried with metals.

Roller Length

As the roller length INCREASES, load capaicty of rollers DECRESES. Please check Load capacity chart.

Please note that load capacities are indicative and adequet buffer should be considered.

Working Conditions
-
Greasy, Salty or Seashore or corrosive chemicals may reduce the performance of the rollres.

Design of Idler Roller Conveyors
-
Product suitability for roller conveyors should be validated first.
-
If there are uneven concentration of load inside the container, closer pitch of the rollers should be considered.
-
Inclined product conveying should be avoided with roller conveyors.
-
Roller Pitch for sprocket driven rollers should be calculated based on the chain pitch.
-
Rollers should be perfectly 90 degree mounted to frame to avoid product direction change.

There should be minimum 3 Rollers below the product to make it stable. So the number of rollers below product should be (Conveying Length / 3 + 1 )

For metal to metal contact should be avoided as far as possible to avoid wearing out of rollers.

Extra care needs to be taken while design of Extra Light as well as Extra Heavy weight products.
Design of Chain Driven Live Roller Conveyors

While design of Roller Conveyor, the roller pitch plays a important role.
-
The roller pitch must be in multiples of Chain Pitch.E.g. if you are using 3/8” chain, so roller pitch must be in multiples of 9.525mm.

This is because, there is no tensioning arrangement in rollers. So the roller pitch should be so optimized perfectly that all the rollers will run in sync.

For chain joining , there two options are available. Half Lock and Full Lock. So in any case, roller pitch in multiples of chain pitch is to be selected.

It's imperative to recognize that the load-carrying capacity of our conveyor rollers is distributive, not concentric. In other words, the capacity is not solely determined by a point load. Instead, it considers the distribution of the load along the length of the roller.
Inverse Relationship with Length:
The load-carrying capacity demonstrates an inverse relationship with the length of the conveyor rollers. As roller length increases, the capacity decreases. This understanding is pivotal for optimal conveyor design, ensuring that the system is tailored to handle loads efficiently.
Consideration for High-Width Products:
For products with greater width, it's important to note that a proportional increase in conveyor roller diameter may be necessary to maintain the desired load capacity. This ensures that the conveyor system can effectively handle the demands of high-width items.

Roller Mounting Options Available
There are various options available to mount the rollers in the frame
Female Threaded Shaft
The Shaft is having female threads ( female tap) and fitted between the frames with Bolts.
This is most widely used method
Spring Loaded Rollers
The Shaft is assembled with spring, so the shaft having spring back action. This makes the roller installation superfast eliminating fasteners application and saving manpower.
Milled End or Across Flat
The milled end or across flat is given to the shaft and is placed into a slotted c frame.
Other Options for roller mounting
There are lot many options such as cross drill, Spring Back + Milled end etc. The selection of the same depends on the application requirement
as well as user requirement.
